The Match is more important than the finals to some fans, as some might not mind losing the Cup as long as they have won this fixture. This being the opening game of both the teams campaigns will have a major impact on them as the Tournament Progresses. The tickets for this Encounter was sold out within 20 minutes which explains how important this game is. The Population of Indians and Pakistanis is a lot in Australia and they will feel at home when they go out on the ground tomorrow.
If we take into account all One Day Internationals played between the two sides Pakistan has the Upper hand of having won 72, where as India has managed to get 50 Wins under their belt. However in the last 25 ODI’s between the teams, India leads with 15 Wins. It still remains very close when these two teams meet but in World Cups, Pakistan have never managed to beat India in 5 Games.
This match is the most anticipated matches of all in the World Cup. This is the biggest rivalry and Cricket and due to the lack of Bilateral Series between these two sides, the fans have been eagerly looking forward for this tie. These two teams have battled it out in the past and both have given it more than 150%. The political problems between the two sides have been so much after the splitting in 1947, that they are scrutinised horribly by their fans for getting it wrong in this game.
Taking a look at their Previous Encounters in Cricket World Cups-

2011- India met Pakistan in the Semi Final Stages of the World Cup. It was a well fought game where Sachin’s 85 led India to 261. The Indian bowlers kept it tight to restrict Pakistan to 231. It was a combined effort where all the bowlers took 2 wickets each to give the hosts the Win.

2003- Pakistan scored 273 thanks to Saeed Anwar’s century. But the Indians responded well to chase the total with more than 4 Overs remaining. It was an impressive performance by Sachin, Yuvraj and Dravid. Sachin missed his century by just 2 runs.

1999- Half Centuries from Dravid and Azharuddin took India to a respectable score of 227. It was hard to defend but  5 for by Venkatesh Prasad kept the Pakistanis in check and gave India the win. Inzamam Ul Haq was the top scorer for Pakistan with 41 Runs.

1996- India scored 287 Runs with Sidhu opening the innings with a good knock of 93 Runs. Pakistan started off well, but Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble pulled it back for India, taking 3 wickets each. Pakistan ended on 248. India won the game by 39 Runs.

1992- India batted first once again, Tendulkar coming in at number 3 to score 54. India ended on 216 Runs. Indian bowlers performed well bowling out Pakistan for a mere 173. The bowlers have been the one giving India the win against Pakistan in key World Cup matches.
This is the first time India will be playing Pakistan in the World Cup, without Sachin Tendulkar in the team. Even the Indian bowling line up is not as good in the past to bowl the Pakistani batsmen out.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
